WOW!!!!!! My free class at Gymboree!!!!

Wednesday October 15, 2008

3:30 P.M. - 5:30 P.M.

Well on wednesday as you can remeber Mr. Siegmund I came to class and verify that I was going to go with my mentor. After, I left class I went to pick up my baby and went to my free class at gymboree to meet my mentor. I took only abook and a pencil and my camera.

WoW!!! I was surprized on my mentors job....If I had to sing and act like she does without having to do it I would probably go crazy but I guess I have to be like that at home also for my baby.

So she went over everything she does at her job. When the class was over we went over all the ages of the babies here at PLC.. We decided to start taking pics the following week.

She explained to me all the levels there was at Gymboree and all the knowledge she witnesses only a daily basis or routine. All the knowledge she gave me I decide to plug into my whole project.... So I am going to observe all the babies and categorize them by the gymboree rules jijijiji....Now these hours really helped me a lot!!!!!!!

4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.

Well I almost completed my seven hours but I knew it wasn't going to be enough. I hate assemblies they always take an hour away from my meetings with my mentor. Well I knew time was getting short for my project, so I decided to get to the point. I told her all my questions and even started to get busy.

I first talked about the questions I had over my product. I was very unsure on how I was going to work with my camera. I decided to make my presentation on a powerpoint the only problem was that I had never worked with pictures and videos on a powerpoint software. Thank God I have that under control now because that was a big issue I was having.

I also asked on how I was going to make up my extra hour I needed by the due date. So we agreed that the next day on wednesday I was going to go over Gymboree on the street Athens West Dr. I tought it was cool. I was going to have a free trail for my baby. I was exited and willing to go for the free class.

Well back to tuesday..... my mentor recommended me to start on my powerpoint, so we did. I organized everything and titled and put some information on my powerpoint. I thought it was to soon to start my poerpoint but she said the sooner the better. I yes it is true now that I have missed days I realize that its better to do stuff faster than slower. So that is all we did thta day!!!!! :)

4:00 P.M. - 5:15 P.M.

My mentor and I met to discuss many subjects. First of all she came in the classroom half awake. "I thought that was funny". Well I had just received my final grade on my research paper. I had told her I was very happy on my grade. I mean it wasn't the highest but it was good enough. I went over my paper and fixed my last page. She helped me out with my bibliography because I really needed the help.

I also went over my whole project. I made suggestions to her and she agreed and approved my decisions. I have decided to make a picture reading book for the children here at PLC. I am going to make it out of construction paper. I decided to leave her for like ten minutes.

During the ten minutes were I left my mentor waiting in the room I went to asked for any equipment at the daycare. For my surprize they gave me the supplies for my product.I was very very happy because I wouldn't have to spend as much for my product.

Well at the end of this day we decided to go over with more details on my next visit over my whole project. I had many questions but I decided to keep them for next week.

4:00 P.M. -- 5:15 P.M

My second visit with my mentor was not as long as the first one. I felt bad because she had to wait for me until the assembly was over. Honestly she looked frustrated.hahahaha!!!! I don't feel guilty because I didn't know myself there was going to be an assembly that evening, but if I had known I would of told her to come in until four. Thats life!!!

So the only hour I saw her on tuesday helped me brainstorm for my senior project, product. I had seen her on thursday of last week but not for mentor hours, it was for the free class at gymboree she recommended me to go on. I took my baby in for a daily class and it gave me the chance to see what she does at her job. WoW!!!!! I was surprized, her job let me know why she doesn't want to have kids any time soon. She does require patience and a good sence of humor for her daily basis. Well anyways back to my hour on tuesday.....

So we talked about me interacting with the children here at school. I am still undecided about my product. On the next visit when she comes, we decided to go observe the children here at plc. I made plans to go and speak with Ms. Mimi and the nursing experts to let me make expirements with the children and if I was able to take pictures before our next visit.

We also went over the pacing guide and some examples that were on line to give us more ideas.
As far as my knowledge and her knowledge we are both definetely learning more and more about children development. She teaches me about her experiences and her observations and I am teaching her with the knowledge I am gaining through this senior project.

Well that is so far what I have done in my progect that deals with my mento. I am not as far, but I am also not as advance in my project as I would desire. So those are the three first hours I have completed for my mentor log so far...but I am definetely exiceted for more

My First Visit With My Mentor

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

3:15 P.M. -- 5:15 P.M.

My first visit with my mentor was on a Tuesday. We met each other and spoke about ourselves at first. Her name is , and she is twenty one years old. She works at the Gymboree playing place next to the store Rattle and Rhymes. I could say that my mentor is an excellent resource because she interacts with children almost every day. She observes and helps children develop their capacities. I was told by her that the agreement of the project mentor hours was explained by her thorough Mr. Siegmund.

Thankful, was the first word I greet her with. I told her I appreciate the time she is spending to help me with my senior project. I also told her I was glad I was helping her out with the hours she has to do herself for her school. We agreed to have our taken cared of on Tuesdays. So every Tuesday we will be working together for my project.

So the first, hour was very interesting until it got boring…… I mean boring because on the second hour we had together she corrected my paper. Since I turn my rough draft in late, I only had one other student from my class to correct my paper. She told me she was an English major so I got excited and knew she could really help me out with correcting my rough draft.

She decided to read over my rough draft like two times and wanted the paper to be perfect, or at least try to make it perfect. Wow!!!! What was I suppose to do while she went over my rough draft???? Well I decided to stay in the place I was seated on and stare at her while she was going over my paper. My decision caused me boringness so I am not going to complain.

It was fifteen minutes before the class would be over and, my mentor didn’t finish correcting my rough draft. I was shocked because she took so much time to correct five pages of my rough draft and not finish correcting all of it if it wasn’t the length it was suppose to be. Well I told her that it was ok if she didn’t finish, because I had to go home when class was over. The first visit of my mentor didn’t go so bad until the end. What got me happy was that at least I had completed two hours with my mentor so I was half way through to completing my hours, in order to make my mentor log…

***My responce to Beowulf Quest.#1 ***

The story Beowulf was very nice and interesting. I didn’t like the end of the story but it makes the reading become a teaching experience. The story was written so long and it seems hard to understand. After reading this long story I actually notice that the story was long because it describes and shows every detail to live the story. So I would like to say that I enjoyed reading this Angle Saxon story.
I learned three lessons in this Beowulf story. One of the first lessons that I acknowledge from this story is that even though you go other places far away doesn’t change who you are. Beowulf was taken far away in the beginning of the poem and even though he didn’t know what he was destined to be, destiny brought him back. In other words he had to come back to the land were he was destined to reign. God has purposes for every one and certain gifts that are given to certain people. When you are born to do something here on earth you won’t die until you accomplish the goal. So that is the first thing that got my attention.
Another lesson I learned from this long poem was that when you fight for justice things would go the right way. It seems like the divine power would always reinforce the right decisions or accomplishments. In the poem, Beowulf always fought for the people and for a justice reason. The monsters Grendel and the mother would kill and torture civilians for no reason and Beowulf with his strength and the unusual power given to him helped stop the evil monsters. So like in many theories good always defeats badness. At the end he defended the bad people and this caused to not have all the reinforcement he had because he was in the wrong side. The side of defending a theft and that gave him a bad result.
Glory and pride is good to a certain point. Beowulf earned the pride and glory with his actions when he was young and when he knew he was capable of defending the civilians from the monsters. The third and last lesson I notice from this story is that Pride and the feeling of being glories can cause death. Beowulf had become king and needed to protect his people the only problem was that he didn’t notice that he was a lot older than in the beginning. He knew he didn’t have the same strength, but he wanted the pride he had before and decided to risk his life by fighting with the dragon. He was so stubborn that he didn’t listen to other people who told him he was too old. Decisions made with an ego this big could have very bad consequences. He needed to put his feet in the ground and notice that he was too old to fight the dragon. He also needed to know the reason to fight the dragon and investigate the reasons why the dragon was furious.
The Anglo-Saxon culture doesn’t seem to be peaceful at all. I really don’t like this type of era. Even though they are not liked by me, I agree that this culture had a major influence on later on generations. Their beliefs and imaginations help us learn lessons through bright stories. Well I really like this assignment. I enjoyed reading and taking my time to explain to you my thoughts regarding this story in the Anglo-Saxon time period.
